Plans for an individual of 30 years age travelling to USA for 15 days

Packing ups your bags, planning your stay and studies, deciding on the funding, purchasing the air tickets and…. confused about the student travel insurance policy.

You actually need to wipe out the dew drops of confusion and have a clear view about the student insurance policy and its need as there are universities that don’t accept the admission of an international student if he/ she do not possess a legal medical insurance policy for the duration of the course.

For the students and parents skeptical about the student travel insurance, here are some myths busted related to the policy-

Insurance to be purchased from the country of study:

Whenever you apply for a university or get admission in one, do read the documents carefully especially the ones related to the requirements of insurance. Since, foreign universities make it mandatory, we generally believe that the policy needs to be purchased from the country of study. But, it is merely a misconception because Indian insurance is accepted by almost all the foreign universities. Also, it turns out to be cheaper in comparison to the insurance cover bought abroad as the premium paid is in Indian currency but the compensation received is in foreign currency.

It is necessary for every individual to confirm the university’s requirements and check for special clause, if any, while opting for the cover. Cashless claims can be availed on the foreign land just by displaying the health card in the hospital you are getting treatment from. Indian insurers have reputed claim settlement service providers in almost every country that would initiate the process. The service providers have tie-ups with majority of hospitals in their respective countries.

Abroad, the claim settlement process is easy and all your medical emergencies are covered under cashless hospitalization facility. Health card is all that is required for the treatment. In case of reimbursement, call the insurer on the toll-free number for assistance. Once, the TPA receives your documents, the settlement is done.

For covering only travel:

Overseas student travel insurance covers only travel, is the biggest myth cemented in numerous minds. The truth is that comprehensive student travel insurance offers a range of features for protection of a student on the foreign land. The cover begins when you board on your journey on entering the airport.

If you opt for the insurance offered by the university, you will be covered only for medical expenses. Whereas, the overseas student travel insurance provides you maximum medical coverage with medical evacuation, if required, and in case of accidental death it offers repatriation costs. The policy would also provide you with add-on coverage for dental treatment, sports emergencies and treatment for nervous or psychological disorders.

In addition to the medical emergencies, it offers coverage for emergencies like loss of luggage or passport and sponsor protection. What’s more? The insurance covers you for the study interruption in case a semester is missed by you because of some medical emergency.

There are travel insurance policies which offer two-way compassionate visit for student’s parents in case he/ she is hospitalized. And now, the policies can be renewed or extended online. So, grab a comprehensive student travel insurance cover before you leave for your dream destination.
