What to Check Before Submitting a PLI Claim?

Prior to filing a life insurance claim, there are a few things to consider so one can prevent delays or unnecessary trips to the postal department. Verify that you have:

  • Policy details: Confirm the policy number, date of maturity or the survival benefit date and the information about yourself.

  • Required documentation: Keep the policy bonds, proof of identification and residency, and other documents handy if required.

  • The bank information: Confirm bank account or POSB account details before you leave for filing the claim.

  • Loan documents: Keep your loan papers if your loan has been taken against the policy.

  • Claim form: Review the claim form properly and ensure that the information is filled in properly and signed before mailing the form.

  • Proof of claim: Keep the claim proof with yourself to track your claim process.

Summing Up

The PLI claim process generally involves confirmation of the benefit due date, filling out the prescribed claim form, submission of required documents and allowing the post office to verify the claim. Maintenance of records of the life insurance policy and premium payments by the insured or the beneficiary would make this process smoother. Post verification, the maturity or the survival benefit to which a person is entitled can be paid into the bank a/c as per the instructions filled up in the claim form.
