The plan has been designed for those individuals who are traveling abroad for study or employment reasons. This plan has the following variants available depending on the geographic location and the sum insured:

  • Worldwide Excluding USA/Canada - C
  • Worldwide Including USA/Canada - D
  • Worldwide Including USA/Canada - D1

Benefits include coverage for medical expenses, evacuation, repatriation, and more. Please note that baggage delay/loss benefit is only available with Plan D-1 and the first USD 100 of claims has to be borne by the traveler.

Inclusions Under the National Insurance Overseas Mediclaim Employment and Studies Policy

The National Insurance overseas mediclaim employment and studies plan offers the following coverage benefits to the policyholders-

  • Medical Expenses:Insurer will provide coverage for any medical expenses caused due to any injuries, illness, or accidents as per the recommendation of the Claims Administrator
  • Repatriation of Remains:In case of incidents leading to the death of the insured person, the insurer will pay necessary expenses for the repatriation of their mortal remains back to India, not exceeding USD 10,000.
  • Medical Evacuation:In case the insured is medically unfit and needs to be evacuated back to India at the approval of the attending physician then the insurer will pay for these expenses.
  • Medical Emergency Reunion:In events of the insured injury or hospitalization where it is necessary that they are sent back to India, the insurer will provide the expenses for one economy air ticket from India for a guardian/spouse or parent of the insured who can accompany them back to India in this emergency.
  • Contingency Insurance:This cover applies to sponsored students studying abroad. If the insured is unable to complete their studies due to death, disability, and other mentioned reasons, the insurer will provide reimbursement to the nominated sponsor at a rate of USD 750 for each month of their completed studies.

Exclusions Under the National Insurance Overseas Mediclaim Employment and Studies Policy

The insurer has the following exclusions under the policy under which no claims or reimbursements would be entertained-

  • In the case of any pre-existing diseases
  • If traveling against the advice of the physician
  • Claims arising out of participation in military or air force operation
  • Claims arising out of suicidal attempts, mental disorder, drug disorder, alcoholism, HIV disorder, etc.
  • If the loss is arising out of acts of war, invasion, revolution, etc
  • Damages due to ionizing radiation or any nuclear waste of fuel
  • Loss due to participating in winter sports, adventure sports, or dangerous sports
  • In case of accidents because of two-wheelers without a valid international driving license

National Insurance Overseas Mediclaim Employment and Studies Policy Eligibility Criteria  

The plan can be purchased by anyone who is in the age group of 5-70 years. It should be bought at least 30 days before the departure from India. The policy can be bought by:

  • An Indian citizen going abroad for business or study purpose
  • Any citizens of India, Nepal, or Bhutan going abroad for business or holiday purposes
  • Foreign  nationals working in India for Indian employers of any multi-national company and drawing salary in Indian currency

In case the insured person is above the age of 70 years and is traveling for over 60 days, a medical checkup will be required. Medical test reports including ECG and fasting blood sugar test are required to be submitted along with the proposal form.
