One of the first things you should do before planning a trip to Australia is check the Australian visa fees for Indians. This is a fixed, non-refundable fee that must be paid when submitting your visa application. As Australia has several visa types and subclasses, each with different fees, checking the costs in advance allows you to plan your trip budget and complete your application successfully.

The Australian government does not charge any fees for a transit visa. To get this visa, you must transit through Australia for not more than 72 hours. You can even transit through Australia without a transit visa if you have a confirmed flight ticket from Australia to a third country within 8 hours along with an Indian official passport, and you should not go through immigration or leave the airport's transit lounge before boarding.
If you want to stay longer in Australia, you must apply for a new visa before your current visa expires. There are no extension fees, because the process is treated as a fresh application, and you pay the standard charge for the new visa type. While your new visa is being processed, and your current one has expired, you are usually granted a Bridging Visa A (Subclass 010) to stay in Australia legally. This visa is issued free of cost.
Visa application charges are non-refundable, even if your application is refused or withdrawn. However, in case a second instalment of the application fee is due, it is not payable if it is withdrawn or refused before processing. Similarly, any fees for pre-visa ballot registration cannot be refunded, even if your registration is not selected.
Similarly, if your Australian visa is rejected, then you won't get any refunds on the visa fee. While you can't do much about cancellation or withdrawal, opting for a refund of the visa fee cover with your travel insurance plan can help cover your visa fees.
