The Netherlands is a major player in global trade and is also recognised for its contributions to the field of arts. The country offers various work visa options for foreign nationals looking to work in the country.
When planning to work in the Netherlands, it is important to understand the process of getting a Netherlands work visa. If you plan to stay in the Netherlands for more than 90 days either to work, study or live; you would need to apply for a Residence Permit.
Additionally, you would also need a Long Stay Visa or MVV (machtiging tot voorlopig verblijf in Dutch), which authorises a temporary stay. Often, MVV might be referred to as a provisional residence permit.
You can travel to the Netherlands with the MVV sticker on your passport and later make an appointment to collect the residence permit from the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) office.
There are certain situations when you would need to apply for a Single Permit (GVVA) for paid employment in the Netherlands. Your sponsor (employer) can submit a GVVA for both residence and work permit to IND. It is a combined Admission and Residence (TEV) application. You can also apply for TEV at the Dutch embassy or consulate.
