Here are the common reasons that you may not have received your car insurance policy document immediately after payment:
Here are the immediate steps you should take to resolve the issue and get your car insurance policy without unnecessary delays.
Look for the policy document or an issuance confirmation in the inbox, spam and junk folders of the email address registered when purchasing car insurance. Also, look for SMS notifications from the insurer or insurance platform.
You can search using terms such as car insurance policy, policy issued, payment confirmation or the insurance company's name. The policy document may have arrived as a PDF attachment or through a download link.
If the payment was successful, you can access your car insurance document by logging into the digital portal of your insurer or insurance aggregator.
A debit in your bank account does not, by itself, confirm that your car insurance policy has been issued. Hence, check your bank statement or payment app to see whether your transaction is successful, pending or failed. Keep the transaction reference number and payment receipt for follow-up with your insurance provider.
If you still cannot find your car insurance documents, contact the insurance company. First, check if your payment was successful and if your policy has been issued. If your payment did not go through, request a refund.
If the insurer does not resolve the issue, raise a formal complaint through its grievance redressal channel and keep the complaint reference number & payment proof. In case the issue remains unresolved, you can escalate it through the Bima Bharosa grievance redressal system of IRDAI.
Before driving without receiving the car insurance policy, you should confirm that your coverage is active. If your previous policy has expired and the new policy has not been issued, do not assume that your car is insured simply because you paid the premium.
According to the Indian Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, a valid third-party insurance policy is mandatory to drive a car legally on public roads. If your insurer confirms your new policy is active, ask for a digital copy and keep it for your records.
