In case you wish to know car insurance details using vehicle number, you can do so by using the 'Parivahan Sewa' portal introduced by the Government of India. This portal allows you to access all information related to your vehicle from RC to license.

Here are the steps to obtain a duplicate car insurance copy via offline mode:
The first thing that you need to do is to inform your insurer about the loss of your motor insurance document. Try to notify your insurer as soon as possible so that your insurance provider can commence the process of issuing the duplicate car insurance policy document at the earliest.
You can inform your insurer by calling them on their claim assistance number or toll-free number. You can also send them an email to inform them about the loss.
Next, file an FIR or First Information Report at the nearest police station. Remember to obtain a copy of the Police FIR, as you will need to submit it to your motor insurance company. The FIR acts as proof of the claim of not being able to find your car insurance papers. Thus, you need to submit the FIR copy to your insurer to obtain your duplicate car insurance policy papers.
Besides filing a Police FIR, you will also need to get an advertisement published in a newspaper to obtain a car insurance duplicate copy. The advertisement should be published in a newspaper circulating across the state where you lost your policy document. However, the insurance company will not pay for the cost of publishing the advertisement. So, consider the cost while selecting the newspaper for publishing your ad.
Next, you need to submit a written application to your car insurance company requesting them to issue a duplicate copy of your four-wheeler policy document. The application should talk about how you lost your policy papers and should consist of details such as your name, car insurance policy number, coverage type, date of issuance, etc. Submit the hard copy of the application to your insurer along with a copy of your registered Police FIR.
Lastly, you need to get an indemnity bond made and submit it to your car insurance provider to obtain the duplicate policy papers. The bond should include your full name and contain the signatures of two witnesses. You will have to buy the stamp paper and get the bond acknowledged by a notary. Your request to obtain the duplicate car insurance papers will only be processed once you submit the indemnity bond along with all the documents to your insurer.
Vehicle insurance is mandatory as per the Indian Motor Vehicles Act. Not having a valid motor insurance policy while driving may lead to legal consequences and penalties. Besides, car insurance provides financial protection against potential expenses that may arise from accidental damage, theft, or other related perils. Hence, you should always have access to your insurance documents and also know how to download car insurance policy if it gets lost or stolen.
