What is a UAE Visa?

A UAE visa is an official permission that allows a foreign national to enter the United Arab Emirates for a stated period of time. Granted by the Embassy or Consulate of the UAE, it lets a non-UAE citizen travel, stay in the UAE. Indians also require a UAE visa to transit through the international transit areas of the UAE airports.

UAE's Dubai and Abu Dhabi are among the most popular Emirates among Indians. To visit these, they need a UAE visa to enter the United Arab Emirates. The United Arab Emirates, or UAE, consists of seven emirates. All of these emirates accept a UAE visa and allow their holders to enter their borders. These emirates include:

The United Arab Emirates offers the following types of UAE visas:

  1. Tourist (Visit) Visa

    This Visit visa for the UAE is for people travelling to any of the Emirates for vacations or to meet family and friends. You can apply for a UAE Visit visa through a UAE-based hotel, airline or tour agency that can apply for a visa on your behalf. This visa can be issued for either a single trip or multiple trips.

    A UAE student visa is a type of visa meant for people who want to study at a university in the UAE. The student visa can be obtained by the sponsor of the child, who may be the UAE-based university, parents, guardians or a relative of the child. A student visa can be renewed on expiry.

  4. Work Permit

    A UAE work permit allows foreign nationals who want to work in this Arab country. It is issued by the MoHRE or the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation and should be applied by the worker's employer on his behalf.

  5. Patient/Patient Companion Entry Permit

    This type of UAE visa is meant for people travelling to receive medical treatment in the UAE. The permit can be obtained only if the treatment is sponsored by a licensed UAE-based hospital or medical establishment.

    It is also available for people who are accompanying a patient who is supposed to receive medical treatment in the UAE. It is issued by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners' Affairs.
