Well, after the amended rules came into effect in the country, many state governments including Kerala, Karnataka, Gujarat made did not follow them thoroughly. They made some changes as they considered these revised challan rates too much to afford for the people of lower-middle-class and even for the middle class. But, the Union Territory, Delhi did not make any changes in the revised challan rates and implemented the same.

However, Delhi being the capital of the country has always been a step ahead of every other state in the country. Be it the arrival of any international brand or latest technology. The Delhites have always been the privileged ones. As an initiative to handle the traffic better, the Central government provided the Delhi traffic police with cameras and speed sensors that were installed on the traffic signals and the side of the roads. This helped them manage the traffic from their control room and then began the trend of Delhi Traffic Police e challan.

How Did Delhites Take Challan Rate Hikes?

When the parliament passed the amendment made by the government in the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, the Government of India implemented the new challans from September 1, 2019. After the implementation, the Delhites became more aware. To avoid the Delhi traffic police e challan, vehicle owners started following the traffic rules and became much more careful.

Since the basic requirement of riding/driving on the road legally is to carry a valid license, pollution control certificate, third-party liability insurance policy and registration certificate. If the Delhi traffic police catch you without any of these documents then you will have to pay the challan as mentioned in the revised traffic bill.

What Is An E-Challan?

E-challan or Electronic challan is a type of traffic challan that is issued online by the traffic police if any cameras caught you violating any traffic rules then an e-challan will be issued against the defaulter. Then he will have to pay for it online.

So, how is it issued? With the help of the Government, cameras and speed sensors have been installed on the traffic signals as well as the side of the road. The Delhi traffic police gets the live feed from these cameras to their monitors in the control room. They manage the traffic as well as look for the defaulters who violate the traffic rules and regulations. So, whenever they spot a defaulter, the camera records the number plate of that vehicle and then they look it up for the person that vehicle is registered with. Then they take all the details necessary like the address, email ID to which they can send the e-challan. The defaulter must pay the e-challan within 60 days. Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India introduced the concept of e-challan in the country.

How to Check E-Challan Online In Delhi?

When the Delhi traffic police issue an e-challan against the defaulter then it is sent to the defaulter email ID, registered mobile number and a hard copy to the home address. The challan must be paid within 60 days otherwise the challan is directed to the court.

If the challan is forwarded to the court then the amount of challan can be increased or send the defaulters to jail for 3 months or both.

You can check the challan issued to you by checking the Delhi traffic police website. It is recommended that you check the website regularly so that you can stay aware of any e-challan sent to you online. You can check it by following the steps below:

• Visit the Delhi traffic police E-challan website
• You will see a tab in the menu “Check Challan Status” on the homepage of the website
• Now you will have to enter the Vehicle number, Driving license number and challan number.
• Then you will be required to enter the captcha shown on the page
• Then Click on “Get Details”
• If you have been issued with any e-challan then it will be shown in the row of “Challan Status”.

There you can see the number of Delhi traffic police e challan that have been issued against you.

Always remember that you need to pay for the e-challan within 60 days. If you fail to do so then it will be sent to court and there you might have to pay an increased amount or be sentenced to 3 months of imprisonment or both.

How To Pay Delhi Traffic Police E-Challan Online?

You can make the payment of e-challan online as well as offline. If you want to pay the traffic challan offline then you can go to the nearest police station and pay the dues.

If you want to pay the challan online then you can follow the steps mentioned below:

• On the “Challan Status” row, you will see the payment options available.
• You will see a tab “Pay Now” click on that tab.
• Choose the payment method among debit/credit card or net banking
• Fill in the required details ad make the payment.

Once the payment is done, you will receive a message on your registered mobile number. It will show the transaction ID that you can save for future reference.

There is another way to pay the e-challan online that is through a mobile app for Delhi traffic police.

How To Pay Challan Through App?

The name of the app is “Tatpar”. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal launched this app. It has around 50 Delhi police-related services. You can check you e-challan on this app as well.

Information Technology Ministry with the National e-governance collaborated and designed this app. It consists of all the apps and websites related to Delhi Police.

Rules That Must Be Followed

If you do not want to pay the heavy traffic fines for violating any delhi traffic rules then you must follow the following things at least.

• Must carry your driving license, insurance, PUC, and RC of the vehicle while riding/driving.
• Never jump red light otherwise the cameras can spot you and you will be booked with an e-challan.
• Always wear a seatbelt and helmet otherwise the traffic police can issue a traffic challan against you.
• Never drive a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, there is a heavy penalty for it and the license can be revoked for 3 months at least.
• Do not use a mobile phone while riding or driving a vehicle otherwise the distraction can lead to an accident.
• Cooperate with the traffic police whenever they stop you on the road.
