      Pune Traffic Rules

According to the Maharashtra Traffic Police, overspeeding and violation of traffic rules are the biggest reasons for the high number of road accident fatalities in Pune. For the unversed, the motor laws/ traffic rules for the country are stated in the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and should be followed by every car driver in India.

With an aim to reduce the large number of road accidents across India, including Pune, the Government of India amended the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The revised Act introduced steeper challan amounts for the violation of Pune traffic rules. The traffic challan rates were increased by almost 200% in some cases to encourage people into following the traffic rules. The new guidelines as per the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 were implemented across the country on 1st September 2019.

The state of Maharashtra was not in favour of accepting the new traffic challan rates due to the drastic increase in fine amounts. But eventually, the traffic challan rates as per the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 were accepted in Pune. Therefore, any car driver in Pune who is found violating the traffic rules will be issued a Pune traffic challan as per the new rates.

But before finding out the traffic challan rates for violation of traffic rules in Pune, go through the list of essential documents that every car driver in Pune must carry.

Documents Required to Avoid a Pune Traffic Challan

As per the Pune traffic rules, every car driver must carry the following documents while using the vehicle:

      • Registration Certificate (RC) of the car
      • Driver’s license of the person behind the wheel
      • Car insurance policy document
      • Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate

If the driver is unable to provide the above-mentioned documents to the traffic police when asked, he/she will be issued a Pune traffic challan for violating the motor laws.
