How To Find Car Insurance Details By Registration Number?
Everyone driving a car on the road must have a four-wheeler insurance policy. It's not just a safety net that protects you from financial & legal liabilities; it's the law! There are several occasions where you require information about a vehicle's insurance, such as checking the car insurance coverage following a collision or before buying a used vehicle, among others. This article is a guide on why it is important to know the vehicle insurance details using its registration number and how to do it.
What is a Car Registration Number?
A car registration number is a 10-digit number issued to a car by the RTO of your district. When you buy a car, it is obligatory to register it within 30 days from the date of buying at the nearest RTO. Then, the respective RTO will allot a unique number to the car to become its identity or number plate.
Typically, this number's first two alphabets indicate the state code, the next two digits mean the specific RTO where the car is registered, the next is the series within the RTO, and the remaining four digits are the unique identification number of the registered vehicle.
Moreover, to simplify registration of vehicles and make it easier for those who often relocate for work, the government of India introduced BH (Bharat Series) registration number plate in 2021. In a BH series number, the first two digits represent the year of vehicle registration; the next is 'BH', then the 4-digit unique number of the registered vehicle, and the last two are the random alphabets.
Just like a registration number is essential for vehicle identification, car insurance is equally crucial for both the financial & legal protection of vehicle owners against unexpected events. Regardless of the type of number plate you choose, a registration number is required to buy a car insurance policy.
