Telangana New Employees Health Scheme (NEHS) - Cashless Healthcare for State Employees

The Telangana New Employees Health Scheme (NEHS) is a state government health insurance scheme providing 100% cashless treatment facilities to Telangana government employees, pensioners, and their eligible dependents. It was introduced by the Aarogyasri Health Care Trust and the Employee Health Care Trust (EHCT) as a successor to the previous scheme, known as Employees Health Scheme (EHS) or Employees and Journalists Health Scheme (EJHS) and became functional from 17 July 2026. NEHS covers 1,816 approved medical and surgical treatment packages at empanelled government and private hospitals across Telangana, with no prescribed upper financial limit for treatments. It is one of the government health insurance schemes in India specifically designed to provide healthcare benefits to Telangana government employees, pensioners, and their eligible dependent family members.

Why Was New Employees Health Scheme (NEHS) Introduced

The earlier Employees Health Scheme (EHS)/Employees and Journalists Health Scheme(EJHS) had limited number of empanelled hospitals and a largely manual process for pre-authorization and claim settlement, leading to treatment delays for employees and pensioners seeking care

The new Employees Health Scheme(NEHS) aims to overcome these deficits by providing a digital platform for enrolment, management of dependents, pre-authorisation, treatment authorisation and claim settlement and an expanded network of empanelled hospitals and treatment packages, enabling cashless healthcare to employees and pensioners. Like similar state employee health schemes, such as Tamil Nadu's NHIS and Andhra Pradesh's Dr. YSR Employee Health Scheme, NEHS combines cashless treatment with a fully digital service delivery system.
