How PM-JAY works in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands

In the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) was launched to serve as the primary health insurance scheme. The scheme was run directly by the State Health Agency (SHA) from the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), A&N Administration. It operates via a Trust/Direct Implementation model without private insurance intermediaries.

This programme provides a cashless health cover of ₹5 lakhs per annum per family for secondary and tertiary level hospitalisation for both SECC as well as non-SECC population (island pensioners, BPL cardholders, and households having an income of less than ₹3 lakhs per year). All the operational processes of this programme have been managed by the State Health Agency, including e-KYC, Ayushman Card issuance, etc.
