      How PM-JAY Works in Assam

The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) in Assam is administered through the Ayushman Asom Mukhya Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AA-MMJAY) scheme. It was launched on 10th May 2023,the scheme was introduced to expand healthcare coverage to low-income and vulnerable households across the state.

The scheme is administered by only one state entity called Atal Amrit Abhiyan Society (AAAS), with a centralised IT system for beneficiary verification and claims management.

Contrary to the conventional central health schemes which depend solely upon the Socio-Economic Caste Census of 2011 (SECC), the government of Assam included all NFSA Ration Card holders into the Assam Ayushman Manipur Mega Mission Jeevan Suraksha Yojana (AA-MMJAY). Whereas the central PM-JAY scheme caters to around 30 lakh SECC registered families, the AA-MMJAY scheme offers coverage for another 26+ lakh NFSA families by providing them with annual cashless cover of ₹5 Lakh.
