Why Was Atal Amrit Abhiyan Introduced

Assam boasts a significant population in the tea garden communities and remote border district areas where the journey to a specialist hospital can be as long as a day. Families are not only hit with a health crisis when cancer, heart disease, and kidney failure occur. They are on the verge of bankruptcy.

The Government of Assam invested ₹200 crore in launching this scheme and directly addressing that reality. The scheme is being implemented under Atal Amrit Abhiyan Society with the Implementation Support Agency, Medi Assist Insurance TPA Pvt. Ltd. One of the significant factors of poverty in Assam was out-of-pocket expenditure on severe illness, which Atal Amrit Abhiyan was aimed at addressing.
