- Check & Pay Mumbai Traffic Police e-Challan Online
The changes made in the motor vehicle act were considered too much as the revised challan rates were not affordable for the people of lower-middle-class category and those who have a single breadwinner in the family. Due to digitalization, the government provided funds to the traffic police department so that they can install enough cameras and speed sensors that can catch the defaulters easily.
The cameras installed on the traffic signals as well as the speed sensors made the job of the traffic police department very easy to catch the violators as they were able to send e-challan directly to their registered mobile number as well as email ID. However, the hikes in the challan rates were decreased by many other states like Kerala, Gujarat, Karnataka, etc but Mumbai stuck to the amended bill. So, how did the people of Mumbai adapt to the increased Mumbai Traffic Police e challan?
How Did Mumbaikars Take the Hiked Challans?
The amended motor vehicle bill was passed by the parliament in 2019. The government implemented these revised traffic fines from September 1, 2019. Therefore the Mumbaikars became more aware and to avoid e-challans in Mumbai city, started following the traffic rules and regulations.
If you own a vehicle then you must be aware that there are four things that you must carry while driving/riding. A valid license, Pollution control certificate, RC, and third-party liability insurance. If you get caught without any one of these can cost you. The Mumbaikars took note of it and started carrying them to avoid getting e-challan.
As we have mentioned e-challan so many times, now you must be thinking that what is an e-challan exactly.
About e-Challan
Electronic challan, popularly known as e-challan is the digitized version of offline challan that used to be issued by the traffic police on the spot when any of the vehicle owners violated the traffic rules. Since everything is done online with the help of fast internet, defaulters can even pay for the e-challan issued to them.
Now you must be thinking how is it issued? So let us tell you, that the Mumbai traffic police have installed cameras and speed sensors. These cameras and sensors work as the eye of the Mumbai traffic police. These cameras send the live feed to the Mumbai traffic police control room from where they manage the traffic lights as well as keep an eye on the defaulters. With the help of these cameras, they get the vehicle registration number through which they get all the details of the vehicle owner. Then they generate an electronic challan against the defaulter’s name and send it to their registered mobile number, their email ID and if need be then they send it to their registered home address. The defaulter has to pay it off within 60 days of issuance.
The e-challan was introduced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India across the country.
