Tata AIG General Insurance Company offers three types of EV insurance policies. These are:
A third party EV policy covers a policyholder against third-party liabilities, such as injury, death, or property damages arising due to accidents involving the insured electric car. While the compensation in case of third party injury or death is unlimited, for property damage, it is limited to up to Rs. 7.5 Lakh.
The standalone own-damage EV policy covers any loss or damage to the insured electric car due to road accidents, fire, theft, natural calamities, etc. You can purchase this add-on with an existing third-party insurance for a broader coverage.
A comprehensive EV policy by Tata AIG General Insurance Company covers both own damages incurred by the insured car as well as third-party liabilities. The coverage of this policy can further be enhanced by purchasing add-on covers for an extra premium amount.
The IRDAI decides third party EV insurance premiums, which are based on the EV's battery capacity. Here are the rates:
Battery Capacity of the Electric Car | Third Party Insurance Premiums |
Below 30 KW | Rs. 1,780 (approx) |
Between 30 KW and 65 KW | Rs. 2,904 (approx) |
Above 65 KW | Rs. 6,712 (approx) |
*Disclaimer: (The premium prices mentioned above are set by IRDAI and may change based on recent updates and revisions. Always stay informed about these updates for the latest rates.)
To calculate the premium amount for a comprehensive EV policy, you can use the car insurance premium calculator before purchasing your desired electric car insurance plan. Alternatively, you can use the following formula to calculate your Tata AIG comprehensive EV insurance premium:
EV Insurance Premium = Own Damage Premium – (No claim bonus + discounts) + (Third Party Premium)

Have a look at the add-on covers available with a Tata AIG comprehensive EV insurance policy:
The Zero Depreciation cover under Tata AIG EV insurance pays for the depreciation amount deducted from the value of the replaced or repaired car parts in case of a own damage claim.
It offers 100% coverage for the EV battery as well as charging equipment. Note that the benefits of the zero dep add-on can be availed only if the insured EV is repaired at the insurer's network garage and the number of such claims is limited to 2 during the policy tenure.
The Return to Invoice cover helps a policyholder get the original invoice value of the insured EV in case of a total loss or theft claim.
These include your EV’s registration fees as well as road tax.
The RSA in car insurance add-on provides emergency assistance or minor repair services in case of a breakdown on the road.
Services include towing, flat tyre, spare keys, etc.
The Tyre Protector add-on cover in car insurance covers any repair & replacement expenses associated with any accidental loss or damage to the EV's tyres & tubes.
The Consumables cover covers the cost of consumables that need to be replenished or replaced after an accident involving the insured EV.
These include nuts & bolts, screws, grease, etc.
Under the Emergency Transport & Hotel Expenses add-on, the insurer covers the cost of a taxi hired by the policyholder to return home or to the nearest city as well as an overnight stay in case the insured EV has been involved in an accident.
The Daily Allowance cover ensures that the policyholder is paid an allowance to cover the expenses incurred on a hired vehicle while the insured car is getting repaired.
The insurer pays an allowance for a maximum of 10-15 days, depending upon the cause of the electric car insurance claim. Nevertheless, the insurer doesn't pay any allowance if the car gets repaired within three days.
The Key Replacement cover pays for the replacement of the insured EV's keys if they are lost or stolen or damaged.
It also covers the labour cost involved with key or lockset replacement.
