What is Form 22D?

Form 22D is a document used to endorse alterations or retrofitment in a vehicle's Registration Certificate (RC). It is submitted after the vehicle owner carries out structural or technical modifications in the motor vehicle. These alterations may include changes to the body structure, fuel system, and other vehicle components. The form allows the registering authority to record these changes in the vehicle's registration documents officially.

Who Issues Form 22D?

Form 22D is divided into 2 parts, submitted in the following manner:

• Part I must be filled out and issued by the motor vehicle owner.
• Part II of the form is to be filled by the concerned Regional Transport Office (RTO).

Who Needs to Submit Form 22D?

Form 22D is required by vehicle owners who have made structural alterations or mechanical changes to their vehicle and need those changes to be officially recorded in the registration certificate. It is typically required in the following situations:

• Vehicle owners converting their motor vehicle to a different fuel type (CNG conversion, etc.)
• Vehicle owners replacing the engine or chassis
• Vehicle owners modifying the body structure of their vehicle
• Vehicle owners installing retrofitment equipment or approved modifications

Form 22D generally contains the following details:

In Part I:

• Motor vehicle and owner details, including vehicle make and model, registration number, engine number, and chassis number
• Alteration or retrofitment details, including the nature of the change
• Compliance details, such as the number and address of the company that carried out the alteration/retrofitment and compliance details from Form 22F
• Reference number of permission for alteration or retrofitment

In Part II:

• Vehicle registration number
• Name, designation, and signature of the authorised person
• Place and date

How to Download Form 22D?

Simply follow the steps listed below to download a copy of Form 22D:

• Step 1: Open the Parivahan Sewa website.
• Step 2: Go to the 'Informational Services' tab and click on 'Downloadable Forms'.
• Step 3: Search for Form 22D from the list of forms displayed on the screen. Tap on the 'Form 22D' link to download it.

How to Fill Form 22D?

You can easily fill in the details in Part I of Form 22D by using these steps:

• Step 1: Provide information about the motor vehicle, such as its make and model, registration number, engine number, and chassis number.
• Step 2: Mention specifics about the alteration/retrofitment, like the nature of the alteration/retrofitment (body structure/fuel source/engine replacement, etc.).
• Step 3: List the compliance details of the retrofitment/alteration, such as the number and address of the company that carried out the alterations.
• Step 4: Fill out the reference number of the permission for alteration/retrofitment.
• Step 5: Mention your name and mobile number.
• Step 6: Enter the place, date and sign the form.

Part II of the Form 22D is filled in by the registering authority.

Why is Form 22D Important?

Common Reasons for Rejection of Form 22D

Sometimes the RTO may reject Form 22D for the following reasons:

• Inaccurate Details Mentioned in the Form: If the details provided by the vehicle owner, such as the vehicle registration number, alteration details, and the address details of the retrofitment company, are inaccurately mentioned or missing.
• Illegal Alterations/Modifications: If the vehicle alterations/retrofitment do not comply with the regulations of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
• Modifications Made by Unauthorised Firms: If the alterations have been made by an unauthorised company/firm.
