What is Form 50C?

As per Rule 127A(7) of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, Form 50C is the Central Government vehicle recall report form. It is the format in which an investigating officer submits the findings of an investigation to the Central Government or a designated authority.

Form 50C documents the complete details of the investigation, including the adopted methodology, observations, test results, and final conclusions. The officer may also include recommendations for further action based on the findings. If the investigation reveals that the manufacturer or importer has not complied with Government standards, the vehicle can be recalled from the market after legal proceedings. Who is Required to Submit Form 50C?

Investigating officers are required to submit Form 50C to the Central Government. Sections 109 and 110 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, lay down standards that vehicle manufacturers, component manufacturers, importers, and retrofitters must follow to ensure quality and safety.

If there is suspicion that these standards are not being met, the Central Government conducts an investigation. An investigating officer is appointed to oversee this investigation. They visit the manufacturing facility or place of business, collect samples, review records, assess product quality, and submit the final report in Form 50C.

What Details are Included in Form 50C?

The investigation report in Form 50C includes the following:

• Site where the investigation was carried out

• Details of the production batch and volume from which samples were selected.
