RTO Bihar
The Bihar Transport Department operates under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The regional transport department of Bihar or RTO Bihar is an integral part of the Bihar Transport Department which was founded for the successful enforcement of the provisions laid down in the M.V Act. The department is headed by the Transport Commissioner. It facilitates the registration of every vehicle plying on the roads of Bihar, collecting road taxes, issuing permits, issuing fitness certificates to commercial vehicles etc.

Types of Vehicle Registration in Bihar
Usually, there are two types of registrations, Temporary and Permanent registration process. Both registrations are equally important. While the first one is offered for a limited period and can be availed through the dealer, the other one is valid for 15 years and can only be availed by approaching RTO Bihar. In case of temporary registration, the vehicle owner submits the required documents to the dealer, where the dealer provides the temporary number through online dealer’s point registration. The application is further sent to the RTO office for approval. On the other hand, to avail, permanent registration number one has to directly approach RTO Bihar and apply for the RC. Once the documents are received and verified properly, the registration number is allotted by the concerned authority.
Vehicle Registration in Bihar
Vehicle registration book is an official copy which proves that a particular vehicle is registered with the concerned RTO. As per the Motor Vehicles Act, no vehicle is allowed to drive without proper registration or it is illegal to drive a vehicle without RC. To register a vehicle in Bihar, one has to approach the RTO Bihar, make an application and follow the formalities. Usually, a vehicle has to be registered permanently within 7 days of purchase. However, one can extend the day by making a written application.
Documents Required for Vehicle Registration in Bihar
The applicant has to collect the application form from the nearest RTO office or can download online from the official website. The application shall be made in Form no 20 and submit along with the following documents:
- Form 20/application form
- Form 21/Sales Certificate
- Form 22/Roadworthiness Certificate
- 22A/in case the vehicle is not body build
- Valid insurance certificate
- Passport sized photographs of the vehicle owner
- Vehicle invoice issued by the dealer of the vehicle
- Temporary Registration Certificate (if any)
- Customs clearance certificate in case of an imported vehicle
- Required documents in case of loan hypothecation
- Sale certificate from the concerned authority if the vehicle belonged to ex-army
- STA design approval in case of semi-trailer or trailer vehicle
- PAN Card details
- Address proof copy of the owner
Vehicle Registration Procedure in Bihar
Once the applicant submits the application form along with the relevant documents, the Registering Authority will verify the information and also will inspect the vehicle. Upon verification of everything, the concerned authority will provide the registration number, along with a receipt. This receipt is useful till the owner doesn’t receive the original RC card, which will be sent to the registered mailing address of the vehicle owner.
