The Chhattisgarh Transport Department is responsible for carrying out the rules and regulations of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, in the state of Chhattisgarh. Type of Vehicle Registration in Chhattisgarh

There are two types of registration process prevailing in the state of Chhattisgarh-

  1. Temporary Registration: This type of registration is done at the time of buying a vehicle and done through the dealer. Temporary registration is offered for a limited period and the vehicle owner required to avail the permanent one within the time frame.
  2. Permanent Registration: Without a permanent registration, no vehicle can be driven on Indian roads. In Chhattisgarh, the registering authority is RTO Chhattisgarh, which allots the registration numbers. The owner needs to duly apply for a number by filling an application form. Upon receiving the documents and approved, the concerned RTO allots the permanent registration number. With this, one can drive a vehicle freely.

Vehicle Registration in Chhattisgarh

Documents Required for Registration at Chhattisgarh RTO

The below documents are required to register a vehicle with RTO Chhattisgarh:

  • Application Form 20
  • Form 21/Sales Certificate from the dealer
  • Form 22/Roadworthiness certificate obtained from the vehicle manufacturer
  • Vehicle insurance document
  • Pollution Under Control Certificate
  • Invoice of the vehicle
  • Age and address proof of the owner

The Process of Registration:

Upon verification of the aforementioned documents and proper vehicle inspection by the CG RTO, a registration number for the vehicle is issued. After registration a vehicle with RTO Chhattisgarh, the same can be driven all over India. The validity of the certificate remains for 15 years, after which it needs to be renewed with concerned RTO.

Validity:

  1. Certificate of Registration issued is valid throughout India.
  2. RC of the vehicle is issued for 15 years for Non-transport vehicles
  3. A Fitness Certificate is issued for 2 years in case of Transport Vehicles. This needs to be renewed every year, from the Registering authority or RTO Chhattisgarh.

How to Renew Registration Certificate

As per the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, any private vehicle needs to be re-registered after 15 years from the date of first registration. The owner needs to get it re-registered with the concerned Registering Authority. In case of Chhattisgarh, the registration certificate needs to be renewed with the RTO Chhattisgarh. The following documents are required to renew the registration card:

  • Application on Form 25
  • Original registration certificate
  • Receipt of paid road tax

CG Transport for Vehicle Ownership Transfer

In case you decide to sell your vehicle or transfer the ownership of the vehicle to another person, the following documents are required to be submitted at the RTO/DTO.

Procedure for Transfer of Ownership on Registration Certificate in Chhattisgarh

In order to transfer the ownership of a vehicle, the owner has to approach RTO Chhattisgarh where the vehicle is registered. He/she will need to furnish a duly filled application form along with certain documents.

  • Original Registration Certificate of the Vehicle
  • Form 29
  • Form 30 duly
  • Valid vehicle insurance document
  • Address proof of the owner of the vehicle

How to Update a New Address in RC in RTO Chhattisgarh

In case of a change in address, the same has to be updated in the registration card. To do so, one can approach RTO Chhattisgarh and submit the application form along with the following documents:

  1. Original registration certificate
  2. Duly filled Form 33. It can be downloaded from the official website of RTO Chhattisgarh
  3. Valid vehicle insurance documents (attested copy)
  4. Address proof of the vehicle owner (attested copy)
  5. Pollution under Control Certificate (attested copy)
  6. Applicable fee for registration
  7. PAN Card or Form 60 & 61(as applicable)
  8. NOC from the financer in case the vehicle is bought on loan.

Procedure for issue of Duplicate Registration Certificate

In case of loss or damage of the permanent registration card, the vehicle owner can apply for a duplicate registration certificate. In order to avail a duplicate RC, the following documents need to be submitted:

  • Form 26 as an application form
  • Form 26, one copy duly attested along with the consent of the financer in case the vehicle is bought on loan
  • Original Police FIR
  • Attested copy of address proof of the owner
  • Applicable fee for a duplicate registration
  • PAN Card, if applicable

Registration Process of Non-transport Vehicle

The vehicle owner can initiate the registration process with the help of a dealer. The common steps of registering a vehicle include:

  1. He/she has to duly fill the registration certificate by providing the required details and submit along with the documents to the dealer.
  2. Upon receiving the form along with the documents, the concerned dealer will enrol the vehicle online via Online dealer Point Registration Process.
  3. The next step is to pay tax and fee online. After paying the dues, a registration number will be provided there.
  4. The registration form will be submitted to the RTO Chhattisgarh by the dealer itself. Ones approved, Registration Smart Card will be printed and sent to the postal address of the vehicle owner.
