How to Register a Vehicle with RTO Kanpur?

A vehicle registration is must in order to ensure a safe and legitimate drive. Every state RTOs are responsible to register the vehicles of their states. The process requires filling an application to the prescribed form and submitting to the concern RTO. When in Kanpur, the registration can be done in two ways-temporary and permanent registration. Temporary registration is done with the vehicle dealer at the time of buying a vehicle. It is offered for a limited period from 7 days to one month. Permanent Vehicle Registration Process in Kanpur

As temporary registration is offered for a limited period and one can’t carry it forever, a registration for permanent RC is required. The application shall be made to RTO Kanpur in Form no 20 and submit along with the relevant documents:

  • Form no. 20/application form. It can be downloaded from the official website of UP Transport Department
  • Form 21/Sales Certificate from the dealer
  • Form 22/Road worthiness Certificate from the manufacturer stating that the vehicle is at per with the road safety rules and worthiness

A proper vehicle inspection will be done by the RTO officer. The Registering Authority will issue an RC number after verifying the documents. The Smart RC Card is sent via post to the registered address of the owner.

Renewal of Vehicle Registration in Kanpur

  1. Form 29/Application for initiating RC Transfer (in copy)
  2. Properly filled Form-30 if the vehicle is hypothecated
  3. Vehicle Registration Certificate
