How to Register a Vehicle in Lucknow?

A vehicle in Lucknow can be registered in two ways, temporary and permanent registration. Whatever is the process, one has to approach RTO Lucknow to do the same. An application process is duly initiated and completed with the concerned registering authority.

Temporary Vehicle Registration in Lucknow

Temporary registration of a vehicle can be done with the dealer at the time of buying a vehicle. This RC is offered for a limited period or a maximum of one month, within which the vehicle needs to be registered permanently. The dealer initiates the application process at Online Dealers Point Registration and submits the relevant documents with the RTO. Further, on approval from the RTO, a registration number is allotted.

The following is the rundown of documents required to be submitted for temporary registration of the vehicle in Lucknow:

  • Application Form-20 (one duplicate copy if the vehicle is bought on hypothecation)
  • Form-21/Sales Certificate from the dealer

How to Avail Permanent Vehicle Registration in Lucknow?

To register a private vehicle, the proprietor will need to fill an application in Form no. 20 and submit the same to RTO Lucknow. He/she will have to pay the required fee as well. The concerned RTO will inspect the vehicle and further verify the documents. The applicant will need to submit the sales certificate obtained from the dealer, roadworthiness certificate from the manufacturer, vehicle insurance documents or other relevant documents to complete the process. Upon verification, the RTO will register the vehicle and will allot the Smart Registration Number to the owner.

Renewal of Registration Certificate in Lucknow

After completion of continuous 15 years, the owner of the vehicle has to re-register his/her vehicle to the concerned registering authority. The application should be made 60 days prior to the expiry date of the registration certificate. An application form along with the relevant documents needs to be submitted to the RTO Lucknow. Change of Address in Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC)

In case there is a change is address, the same needs to be uploaded in the Registration Certificate as well. To initiate the same, an application should be made towards the Registering Authority in Lucknow. Underneath the required list of documents for change of address in registration certificate:

  • Form 33/application for intimation of change of address
  • Form no. 33 in copy (duplicate copy if the vehicle is secured by hypothecation)

How to Apply for Duplicate Registration Certificate in Lucknow?

If the vehicle owner has lost the original RC, he/s can apply for a duplicate copy by approaching the RTO Lucknow. The application must be made towards the Registering authority, requesting for a duplicate RC copy. Along with the form, the applicant has to submit the applicable fee along with the below documents as well. The entire process may take 5 working days or more:

  • Duly filled Form no. 26
  • Police Report (if lost)
  • Vehicle Insurance Certificate
  • Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate

Transfer of Vehicle Ownership in Lucknow

If a vehicle is sold to someone else or if the owner wishes to transfer the ownership of the vehicle to someone else, an application in this regard needs to be made in Form no. 29 and submit along with the relevant document to RTO Lucknow. The list of documents needs to be submitted for transferring the ownership is beneath: 

  • Form 29/application form for transfer of ownership
  • Form 30 in case the vehicle is purchased on loan
  • Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC)

Re-Registration of Vehicle from Another State

Chances are that a vehicle was initially registered in another state and the owner needs to move to Lucknow. In that case, the vehicle should be re-registered with the RTO Lucknow. If the move is for a temporary basis, just say for six months or more, there is no convincing reason to re-register the vehicle. However, the transfer of ownership is essential if a vehicle is sold to another state or purchased outside of Lucknow. An application should be filled and submit along with the following documents to transfer the ownership:

  • Duly filled in Form no. 20
  • Form no. 27 for issuing the new registration number
  • No Objection Certificate from the concerned RTO if bought from another state in Form no. 28
