Types of Vehicle Registration in Mysore

The M.V Act, 1988 strictly restricts anyone from driving a vehicle without a valid registration certificate. The same rule is to be followed in Mysore as well. Every vehicle that is purchased or out from the showroom has to be registered with RTO Mysore. Failing which may lead to huge penalty.

The registration process is of two types-

  • Permanent Registration: Permanent registration is a must to drive a vehicle on the roads of Mysore. One must apply for permanent RC within 7 days or before the temporary RC expires. Permanent RC is valid for 15 years after which one should renew it.
  • Temporary Registration: A person given with a temporary registration card can use this for a limited period of 7 days. However, he/she can extend the date by making a written application. The temporary RC can be issued with the dealer at the time of buying a vehicle.

Process of Vehicle Registration in Mysore

As we already said, without registering a vehicle one can’t freely drive a it on the roads of Mysore. Vehicle registration in Mysore is simple. The applicant can either go for online registration of register by visiting the RTO office. Apart from the application, one has to attach the supporting documents to meet the application requirement.

Documents Required for Permanent Registration in Mysore

The permanent registration number can be availed by applying in Form no CMV 20 and submitting to the RTO Mysore. The applicant has to make the application process within 7 days from the date of delivery of the vehicle. However, one can extend the date of temporary RC and apply. The below documents are required to complete the application process:

  • Form 22/ Roadworthiness certificate from the vehicle manufacturer

Upon inspection of the vehicle and verification of the documents, RTO Mysore issues a registration number to the vehicle owner. This number is generated electronically based on the ongoing series. One can also apply for fancy number, however, with an additional cost. The fancy number can be availed through auction only. A registration certificate will be sent via post to the registered number once the registration process is competed at the RTO office. However, one can apply through online as well by visiting the official website of Karnataka Transport Department and navigating through the registration tab. After successfully registering a vehicle, one can avail the RC as Smart Card.

Documents Required for Temporary Vehicle Registration in Mysore

As a dealer can’t deliver a vehicle without registering it, temporary registration is offered to allow the vehicle to be driven on the roads. This types of registration is offered for limited period. The documents required for temporary registration include:

  • Form 18 (KMVR)
  • Form 21/Sales Certificate obtained from the dealer
  • Form 22/Road worthiness certificate by the manufacturer saying about the vehicle worthiness
  • Valid address proof of the vehicle owner
  • STA approval on vehicle design in case of trailer/semi-trailer vehicles
  • Form 21/Sales Certificate from the concerned authorities in case the vehicle belonged to army
  • Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate

Transfer of Vehicle Ownership in Mysore

If a vehicle owner wishes to sell his/her vehicle, the ownership has to be transferred as well without fail. The RC transfer can be initiated by approaching the RTO Mysore and making an application for the same. The various documents to be attached with the application form include:

  • Application From 29 and Form 30
  • Form 31/in case of inheritance transfer
  • Form 32/ transfer via public auction
  • PUC certificate
  • Original copy of vehicle chassis number
  • Registration certificate
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the concerned RTO in case of inter-state transfer
  • An affidavit stating about the deal
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) has to be obtained from financer if the owner has purchased the vehicle on loan

In case of the death of registered owner, the legal successor can make an application to transfer the ownership along with the following documents:

Updating New Address in Registration Certificate in Mysore

If someone relocates to Mysore or shifted from Mysore, the new address has to be updated in the RC Book as well. To update a new address, one shall make an application and submit to the RTO Mysore. The supporting documents are:

  • NOC from the financer if the vehicle is purchased on loan
  • Vehicle registration copy
  • Address proof of the owner
  • PUC (Pollution Under Control Certificate)
  • Applicable fee

Process of Applying for Duplicate RC in Mysore

Applying for duplicate RC is essential in case the original one is lost or damaged. To apply for a duplicate registration card, one has to make an application in form 26 and submit along with the following documents:

Renewal of Non-transport vehicles/Private Vehicles in RTO Mysore

Renewal of RC is mandatory after 15 years of first registration. This can be initiated by filling an application and submitting to the RTO Mysore along with the following documents:

  • Form CMV 25
  • Registration certificate
  • Road tax
  • Pollution Under control Certificate
  • Insurance document of the vehicle
  • Vehicle inspection process

Fees Applicable for Renewal of Registration

The renewal of registration certificate requires the vehicle owner paying certain fees:

  • Two wheelers: INR 60
  • Light Motor Vehicles: INR 200
  • Imported LMVs: INR 80
  • Imported two-wheelers: INR 100

Note: Rs. 25 is charged as penalty for delay in renewal of registration subject to a maximum of Rs. 100.

Finally, the vehicle needs to be produced from inspection. Upon an inspection and verification of documents, the Registering Authority will renew the registration certificate. This time the RC is renewed for a subsequent year of 5 years.
