The Transport Department of Rajkot is bestowed with the responsibility of offering an efficient public transportation system, registering the vehicles in Rajkot, constant check on vehicular pollution, issuance of DLs, issuance of various permits, and collection of road taxes etc. The department functions under the provisions of Section 213, Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. How to Register a Vehicle in Rajkot?

To register a vehicle, the owner needs to produce the following documents at concerned RTO along with the Form 20

1. Form No.21/Sales Certificate from the dealer

2. Form 22/ Roadworthiness certificate obtained from the manufacturer stating that the vehicle is in the compliance with the road safety norms

3. ID proof of the owner

4. Insurance policy documents of the vehicle

5. Customs bill is needed in case of an imported vehicle

6. Form 22 part (2) in case the vehicle is fabricated

7. 10th Pass Certificate, L.I.C. Policy, Voter ID, Electricity Bill, Telephone Bill, House Tax payment receipt, pay slip of Central/State/Local Self-Government

Process of Availing Permanent RC in Rajkot

The Motor Vehicles Act has made it mandatory to carry a copy of Permanent RC while driving anywhere. Registration Certificate or RC indicates that a vehicle is registered with the RTO of a particular area. Likewise, any vehicle plying in the city of Rajkot has to be registered permanently with RTO Rajkot. The RC can be availed as Smart Card which usually contains the below details:

  • Registration Number of the vehicle
  • Vehicle Engine Number
  • Registration date
  • Chassis Number of the vehicle
  • Type of the vehicle
  • Colour of the vehicle
  • Seating Capacity of the Vehicle
  • Model Number

Documents Required to Avail Permanent RC Book

The documents to be produced are:

  • Form 20 as an application form for registering the vehicle
  • Form 21/ Sales Certificate stating the details of the sale
  • For 22/ Road Worthiness Certificate saying that the vehicle is perfect to be driven on the road
  • Form 22 A if the vehicle is not body build.
  • Address proof of the vehicle owner
  • In case of a trailer or semi-trailer vehicles, the owner will require s to submit a copy of design approved from the STA
  • Sales Certificate needs to be submitted to the RTO Rajkot in case the vehicle belonged to ex-army.

The Process of Getting a Temporary RC in Rajkot

A temporary registration card can be obtained at the point of the dealer while purchasing a vehicle. The temporary RC is offered for a limited period, within which the owner has to apply for the permanent registration certificate. The temporary RC number is allotted from7 days to a maximum of one month.

How to Renew Registration Certificate?

A registration certificate is valid for 15 years only and the same needs to be renewed thereafter. The concerned Registering Authority renews the RC after accessing the roadworthiness of the vehicle.  In order to renew the registration certificate, the owner needs to fill Form no. 25 and submit to the RTO Rajkot along with the below-mentioned documents:

  • CMV Form No. 25
  • Registration Certificate
  • Insurance document
  • Road tax receipt
  • Any address proof of the vehicle owner
  • Pollution under Control (PUC) Certificate
  • An inspection of the vehicle at RTO point

How to Get a Duplicate Registration Certificate in Rajkot?

A duplicate RC can be availed in case the owner has lost the original copy. The process can be initiated by applying in the Form no. 26 and submit to the RTO Rajkot. The below documents are required to be submitted along with the application form:

  • Police report (in case of loss)
  • No Objection Certificate obtained from the financer if the vehicle is purchased through a loan
  • Address proof of the owner
  • Insurance Certificate and PUC Certificate

How to Transfer Vehicle Ownership in Rajkot?

Process of Address Change in RC Book

If there is any change in the address of the registered vehicle owner, the same needs to be updated in the Registration Card as well without fail. If the vehicle belongs to Rajkot and the owner has to change the address due to XYZ reason, the owner needs to approach the concerned RTO and apply for updating the new address. A private vehicle is registered for 15 years. Once the registration is expired, the owner has to renew the same without fail. After the first renewal, the RC has to be renewed in 5 years interval. For How long the certificate of fitness is valid?

The fitness certificate issued to the commercial vehicle is valid for two years. After that, the owner has to reissue it.

    • 16 years in the case of two-wheelers with CC capacity below 50
    • 20 years – good carriage and passenger carrying vehicle
