Types of Vehicle Registration in Bhopal

There are two types of vehicle registrations provided by the RTO Bhopal:

  1. Temporary Registration: The temporary registration is done at the time of purchase of the vehicle and hence mostly it is provided by the dealer only. It is provided for a specific period of time, generally for a month, and hence the owner has to get the permanent registration certificate within this time.
  2. Permanent Registration: No vehicle with the engine is allowed to run on the roads of India without a registration and the owner has to opt for the permanent registration certificate before the expiry of the temporary registration of the vehicle. In Bhopal, the registration authority to provide registration certificate is RTO Bhopal. One has to duly fill an application form and provide all the required documents in order to get the registration number for his/her vehicle.

Documents Required for Temporary Registration

The below documents are required to register a vehicle with RTO Chhattisgarh:

  • Sales certificate in Form 21
  • Insurance certificate
  • Roadworthiness certificate in Form 22 from the manufacturer of the vehicle (Form 22A from the bodybuilder)
  • Pollution Under Control certificate
  • Address proof (Electricity bill/ration card, etc.)
  • Original sales certificate given by the concerned authorities in Form number 21, if the vehicle is an Ex-Army vehicle.
  • In case of trailers and semi-trailers design approval copy of the STA.
  • In the case of imported vehicles, customs clearance certificate.
  • The fee payable to the Temporary Registration until exempted or for the extension a fee of Rs.50/- shall be paid according to the Rule 42(10) of Madhya Pradesh Vehicles Rule, 1989.
  • Tax as per the Motor Vehicle Act, Madhya Pradesh.

Documents Required for Permanent Registration

For permanent registration, an application for the registration of the Motor Vehicle must be made in the Form number 20 to the Authority of Registration of Bhopal within 7 days from the delivery date of the vehicle excluding the journey period. Below mentioned is the list of required documents that are to be provided with the application form is:

  • Certificate of Sale in Form 21
  • Address proof (Ration card, electricity bill, etc.)
  • Certificate of roadworthiness of the vehicle in Form 22 given by the manufacturer and Form 22A given by the bodybuilder.
  • Original sales certificate given by the concerned authorities of RTO Bhopal in Form 21 for the Ex-army vehicle.
  • For trailers and semi-trailers, the copy of STA design approval.
  • Insurance certificate
  • Certificate of Pollution Under Control.
  • Form imported vehicles, customer clearance certificate.
  • A fee as per the Rule-81 of Central Motor Vehicle Act.
  • Tax according to the Madhya Pradesh Motor Vehicle Act.

Upon receiving the application receipt, the Registration Authority of Bhopal must provide the registration mark as per the Rule 80 of the Motor Vehicle Act. The registration number assigned by the registration authority must fall in the serial order after assigning the last registration mark.  

Renewal of Registration Certificate in Bhopal

An application for the renewal of the Registration Certificate in Bhopal must be made in Form 25 at least 60 days prior to the expiry date. Apart from this, the owner has to pay the fee as mentioned in the Central Motor Vehicle Act, 1989’s Rule 81 to the Registration Authority of Bhopal along with the following documents:

How to Get the Duplicate Registration Certificate from RTO Bhopal

An application shall be made in Form number 25 to issue a duplicate registration certificate. If the vehicle is purchased on finance, lease, or hire purchase, then the signature of the financer on Form 26 in duplicate must be provided. Along with these, a fee as per Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicle Act, 1989 to the Registration Authority of Bhopal with the following documents:

  • In case of loss of Registration Certificate, the FIR must be provided.
  • If the Registration Certificate is damaged, the original certificate must be provided.

Transfer of Ownership of the Registration Certificate

An application shall be made in Form number 25 to issue a duplicate registration certificate.
