The Transport Department of Madhya Pradesh has 20 RTOs including ARTOs. RTO Indore is one of them, which functions under the provisions of Indian Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (Section 213). The department is supervised by the Transport Commissioner.

The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 has made it mandatory to register every vehicle to drive on the roads. One can register his/her vehicle with the concerned state or city RTO by applying through an application form, along with the required documents. The registration card is a smart card, which contains the details such as date of registration, vehicle model, place of registration etc.
To register a new vehicle one needs to furnish the below documents:
1. Duly filled Form 20/ with the mark of chassis number and vehicle engine
2. Form 21/Sale certificate obtained from the vehicle dealer
3. Form 22/Road worthiness certificate given by the vehicle manufacturer
4. Self-attested copy of vehicle insurance document
5. Self-attested address proof to register the vehicle
6. Form 34/from the financer in case the vehicle is purchased on loan
7. Applicable one-time road tax
8. Applicable registration fee
9. PAN Card or Form 60 & 61, whichever is applicable
10. Invoice of manufacturer

After 15 years from the date of first registration of a vehicle, the registration card needs to be renewed. The vehicle owner should make an application for renewal in Form 25 within 60 days of its expiry and by paying the appropriate fee. The same needs to be submitted to RTO Indore. After inspecting the vehicle and verifying the documents, RTO Indore renews the registration card and allots the renewed RC to the vehicle
Various documents required to renew the registration card are:
A duplicate registration card can be availed in case of loss or if the original one is worn out. An application in this regard shall be made in Form 26. If the vehicle is purchased on loan, the signature of the financer will be required on Form 26 in duplicate and the applicable fee is required to avail a duplicate copy of RC. The same needs to submitted to the RTO Indore, under whose jurisdiction the vehicle is.

If a vehicle is bought from another state, despite it is registered with the RTO of that state or city, it needs to be re-registered with RTO Indore again. Moreover, as one can’t use the vehicle detail or number plate of the previous owner and it needs to be transferred to the new owner, the transfer of ownership process can be done by approaching RTO Indore. The vehicle owner needs to file an application in Form 29 or Form 30 in case of loan hypothecation and submit the same to the concerned RTO.

In case of a private vehicle, the dealer will guide the vehicle owner through the whole process. The vehicle owner will have to submit the required documents to avail the registration certificate.
The dealer will enrol the vehicle online via Online dealer Point Registration Process, on payment of the required fees and tax online. Initially, a registration number will be provided and the documents will be submitted to the RTO Indore for verification. On approval of RTO, the registration smart card will be printed and sent to the registered address of the vehicle owner.

Vehicles that are used for personal use or not used for the commercial purpose of the owner, that ate called non-transport vehicle. Usually, bikes, private cars come into this category.
Well, nobody is authorised to drive a vehicle without registering it. You’ll have to carry an RC, at least temporary one for the initial stage. Eve a dealer can’t sell a vehicle or deliver without registering it. It can only deliver the vehicle that is temporarily/permanently registered with RTO. You can register the vehicle at the nearest registering authority by filling an application along with the supporting documents. The concerned RTO will investigate the vehicle and verify the documents and finally will allot the registration number. With a valid registration number only, you can drive the vehicle safely on roads.
Well for a temporary period only. A vehicle registered in one state can be driven in another for 12 months. Though, the registration number is valid through the country, if a vehicle is bought from another state, it needs to be re-registered with the RTO of that state or city. Moreover, road taxes are to be paid as well. The owner will have to produce a NOC obtained from the RTO of the state, where the vehicle was registered previously.
In that case, you can apply for the duplicate registration certificate.
Paying road taxes to the government are compulsory and vehicle with due taxes will not be allowed to drive in public places. The RTO official can detail or seize your vehicle for not paying the road taxes in time.
